ELIMINATE PROPERTY TAXES!!!!

We'll be at the "mercy of the Legislature," so goes the new television commercial trying to frighten people into voting against Measure 2, "No police protection, no fire protection, no librarians, no city government, no schoolboards, Etc, Etc...." According to this commercial our local world will be turned upside down if we pass measure 2. Everybody, right down to the "individual," according to the commercial will have to stand in line to "beg" for money from the Legislature. Our North Dakota Legislature is being made to sound like a bunch of ogres.
Well, people of North Dakota, hang onto your hats and fear not, government money grows on trees (as I've said before) and we will not lose any of the services we have come to depend on...maybe we've even gotten a little too dependent: I'm sure there are some programs and offices that can be eliminated altogether, and I can hear some people screaming already.
Yes, when Measure 2 passes there will be some scrambling, but government services will continue. Possibly some budgets will have to be chopped, maybe even some unnecessary positions will be chopped. I'm quite sure that some local offices dependent on that almighty property tax are overstaffed. But passing Measure 2 is the only way changes will be made. The passing of Measure 2 will FORCE change. Too bad it has to be forced, but too many people get settled into the status-quo and become frightened of any change.
And now even the Legislature is getting on board with the other Powers-that-be: They've come up with the idea that the tax bill of a house of, say, the value of $150,000 would be cut in half from $2,132 annually to $1066, with an exemption of $75,000. But all they have to do, folks, is send those black-hearted tax assessors right back out and reassess the values of all homes, and soon, a home owner's tax bill will be right up there in the clouds again. Evidently the Legislature is getting worried too, for when Measure 2 passes they'll be forced to come up with solutions, they might even be forced to have a special session--they might even have to WORK!!!!
Another comment I keep hearing from letter writers and Forum articles is that one of the reasons for Measure 2 is to prevent senior citizens from losing their homes. The Powers-that-be say senior citizens do not lose their homes. Why not? Because when senior citizens reach a certain age or certain income level they can get up to a 100% deduction, but yet those taxes continue to be paid. By who? I asked somebody (somebody who I thought should know) about where "that" money comes from. She didn't really answer me. Why? Either she doesn't know or she simply didn't want to tell me. Here's some more thought: As North Dakota's population ages and more people qualify for that property tax help, well, that tax bill will continue to grow. So, again, where "does" "that" money come from?
Again, I'm getting real tired of writing about property taxes. June 12, 2012 can't come soon enough.
But with all the anti-Measure 2 media out there, I have to wonder if the Powers-that-be are getting a little worried. They should be. Because if Measure 2 fails, as the Terminator said, we'll "be back!"
As a last word, North Dakota Facebook friends (and all you friends the world over,) please share this posting with your friends. Let's give the Powers-that-be a run for their money. And Twitter and Google + friends, watch what happens here in North Dakota, and even if we fail here you don't have to fail in your own state. The only way the Powers-that-be will learn to manage money is to FORCE them!
North Dakota citizens vote in favor of Measure 2 . Eliminate property taxes--Vote YES!!!!
